This post is an update to an earlier post regarding the performance of the local economy in Sault Ste. Marie.

Vehicle entries remain low relative to the long-term entries and, as illustrated in Figure 1, have not recovered from the covid-19 shut down. By early 2024 vehicle entries through Sault Ste. Marie were struggling to return to pre-pandemic levels. And pre-pandemic levels were well down from activity during the turn of the century before the global financial crisis.

Vehicle crossings in Sault Ste. Marie follow a similar pattern to vehicles entries into Ontario from the US at all crossings. See Figure 2.
